Game 2 report: sponsored by Winfield Cigarettes - it looked Nathan Brown was hiding a pack under his shoulder when he popped it out... Anyone else see that? The Good: - Well, winning for a start. Answering the critics somewhat after our round 1 performance, we are not quite a slider yet. - Winning the contested possession count against a team like Sydney is a super effort. - The contribution from the young brigade; Langdon, Sinclair, Elliott, Grundy, and Adams off the bench in the last quarter all made contributions. Frost also took the honours against the 10-million dollar man, what an amazing performance in just his fourth AFL game. A lot of people, including myself, thought he would have made way tonight given Sydneys taller forward line, but he was given faith and we were all rewarded by it. - Scott Pendlebury after quarter time was an absolute Rolls Royce. Beams was consistently solid all game and will probably even take three brownlow votes with him. Caf completely blanketed Kieran Jack and minimised his effectiveness. Another big scalp in his tagger collection. - We continue to buff our impressive interstate record - we should request to start the season interstate every year I reckon! The Bad: - Accuracy. Our old achilles heal haunted us again but luckily didnt cost us. Ten more scoring shots for a total of 12.17. - This game is umpired totally different this year, and tonight was poor. Not just saying that because Sydney got more free kicks, but some decisions were baffling. - Dane Swan had an absolute Barry Crocker. He never looked right from the first minute, and the commentators mentioned several times he could be carrying a niggle. If that was the case he shouldnt have played. You would have to expect him to bounce back next week. - Jesse White never fired against his old mob, but it was his first proper game in new colours and I expect him to improve as the weeks roll on. - Why no one picked up Maxwell is beyond me. The only time he looks at ease is when he is playing loose man, and Longmire let him. The Ugly: - Nathan Browns shoulder. Didnt look good. They can be funny though, sometimes players play the next week and sometimes they miss months, lets just hope theres no ligament damage. - Disposal efficiency. I know it had been wet in Sydney, but gee whiz was there a plethora of turnovers or what? Both teams guilty there. - Dane Swans dream team score of 68. Hes my captain so thats not good... - Ugly is how things looked at quarter time. They were having a crack but absolutely nothing was happening in the forward half. - Some people just arent giving Benny Sinclair a fair go. The guy is a small forward by trade, but due to Marleys absence hes taking on the role of small defender, which is not natural to him, but to his credit he is doing a fair job. Hes not great, hes not blessed with super skills, but hes managing. He had some crucial victories tonight; taking marks in defense, a diving tackle that was enough to put Rohan off his kick for goal 20m out, and even running off and slotting a goal right before half time to get us within 9 points and gave us momentum going into half time. Credit where credit is due guys! Mikes Medals: Bronze: Dayne Beams Silver: Jack Frost Gold: Scott Pendlebury
