Gardner Dozois writes: Today is National Nothing Day, a day when youre supposed to celebrate nothing by doing nothing at all. I know that some of you have been waiting for this for months, so enjoy. If you decide to defy this edict and do something instead, you can try appreciating dragons, because today is also Appreciate A Dragon Day. Some of the best fictional dragons are to be found in the work of Ursula K. Le Guin and J.R.R. Tolkien, and I might self-servingly recommend my two anthologies with Jack Dann, DRAGONS, available as an ebook from Baen, and THE DRAGON BOOK, also available in a Kindle edition. And, of course, theres also a vast body of folklore about dragons, and several books of gorgeous paintings of them. If looking at and appreciating all of these fire-breathers makes you want to breath some fire yourself, fortunately for you its also International Hot And Spicy Food Day, so treat yourself to some hot and spicy food today. For desert, to cool your mouth down, you can have some Fig Newtons, because its also National Fig Newton Day (although yesterdays strawberry ice cream from Strawberry Ice Cream Day might have worked better).
