Good Morning. In Matt 27 we are given a clear picture of what Jesus went through during the last couple of hours before His death. As we examine the scene we will see the leaders of the church at the forefront of the attacks against Jesus. These scenes should remind us of how easily we can participate in evil when we don’t allow the Holy Spirit to take full control of us. On the other hand, as we examine carefully the attitude of Jesus, we can also see the effects of the power of the Holy Spirit. Although the weight of the sins of the whole world was on His shoulders, Jesus was calm throughout this very stressful situation. We must remember that Jesus went through this situation as a man. He gave us His divinity which means that He had no divine powers to use. Can you imagine the pain He suffered both mentally and physically? Jesus knew that without His death mankind could never become reconciled to God every again. After hanging on the cross for some time and seeing how the church leaders and other individuals had allowed themselves to be led by Satan, this weighed heavily on His heart. And when He though that things could not get any worse, He experience separation from the Father and the Holy Spirit. Now He was totally alone and had to bear the sins of the world by Himself. In Matt 27:50 the Bible records the final effects of the weight of the sins of the world upon Jesus. The word of the Lord said, “Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.” Jesus did on the Cross so that we can have the gift of eternal life. He went through agony, suffering and pain so that we can gain eternal life. I pray that we will allow the Holy Spirit to take full control of every area of our lives so that we can receive a crown of righteousness at the second coming of Jesus.
