Good day one and all. I had the pleasure of visiting Mozambique - TopicsExpress

Good day one and all. I had the pleasure of visiting Mozambique for 12 days with a group of 14 other South Africans, John Erskine included. I have been following the horror stories on here, with regards to the Police etc and so it was with a huge amount of anticipation for the African Way that I set out. To say I was pleasantly surprised is an understatement. On the way up to Inhambane we were stopped for not displaying the reflective triangle on the front bumper before Maputo, and a stern yet friendly no from our driver on being told he was to pay a fine, sticker fixed we were on our way. Yes there were cops all over the place, but we were merely waved on our way. On our return journey we were not stopped once and although several persons screened us at the Goba border post, we were soon on our way. I think we need to distinguish between being harassed and authorities doing their work. If you were speeding or breaking the law, own up and take your punishment and dont dis the authorities for doing their job. Yes there will always be the rotten apples, but certainly from my one and only experience in Mozambique, it is nowhere nearly as bad as some people tend to make it out to be. I have travelled extensively in southern, western and eastern Africa and have yet to encounter the horror stories personally. I am not saying they dont happen, but if we are wrong then we should include that in our posts so that the bigger picture is accurately reflected. Thank you Mozambique for an excellent 12 days and I shall certainly be back.
