Good evening all, Some photos of our hamlet, and an old poem of mine. Hampton Load “E” Land A pretty fairytale row of cottages perches close to the riverside. Sweet names as Yew tree, Old Timbers and Post, hide a big divide. Villagers all offered heaven, but the few chose on the dark side. What a choice, three tasteful cottages on a car park so wide. But “no” twenty two modern bungalows soon to scar the valleys pride. The Mission Hall a place for prayer in times of old. Now Lynwood Lodge a cottage in the picture book mould. The aged forge now transformed into a home and garden to behold. The Old Forge House and Cottage a messuage for the bold Dwellings of iron masters who made ingots that glowed like gold. The ancient welcoming Lion Inn, to pass it by would be a mortal sin. Country wines and real ales served as well as gin, on warm nights be early to get in Rob, Margaret, and Jon create the perfect night, the food and atmosphere are just right. Hewn sandstone and beams make a lovely sight, the log fires burn all through the night. The whittleshires never leave their posts, Robs team of bar maidens and serving girls make good hosts. Tis a family Inn with dog and ghost, raise your glasses as its Forty-four years we toast. By Rob Whittle The Lion Inn closed on 13th April 2003 but the words and place still echo in the minds of customers and friends for all time!
