Good evening, this is Yukio Higashi. I believe most of you know that all professional bowlers in Japan are belong to JPBA (LBO has been dissolved) On the other hand, how JPBA is operated Firstly I start from outline. Name: Japan Professional Bowling Association / JPBA Established on January 27, 1967. Became incorporated association on July 10, 1991 Changed to Public interest incorporated association on July 1, 2013 (due to change of Japanese law) There are 13 directors and 2 auditors in JPBA. 10 of 13 directors have JPBA license. In those director, name of Katsuko Sugimoto Pro (as JPBA vice chairwoman, and as chairwoman for women’s tournaments) and Takashi Maruyama Pro (as JPBA administrative director, and publicity chairman), can be found. Sugimoto is a presenter of prize, and Maruyama Pro is a commentator in P-league. Then, please refer to flow chart endorsed. This is image of JPBA operation (Most of) official members in this flow correspond to JPBA bowlers. Male – 804/Female – 323, They are KJPBA bowlers, and 12 of Professional Teaching staffs (They are not professional bowlers) are also belong here. Whole number of the members is 1139 in total (As of October 31, 2014). As you know, it’s necessary to take qualification exam to be JPBA professional bowlers. Participants have to pay JPY100,000 as entry fee first. Then after passing the exam, all successful candidates are required to have Class C instructor license. They have to pay JPY36,000 as seminar fee, and JPY50,000 as entrance fee (to be official members of JPBA). Finally, they have to pay JPY70,000 per year as annual membership fee (to keep license they have got). Some of former JPBA bowlers had doubt and a sense of crisis under this system. Number of tournaments had decreased gradually, and they felt also entry fee and/membership fee was eaten in JPBA organization. Some people mention this situation motivated charter members of LBO to move from JPBA. As administrator introduced in the past, LBO was established by DHC because current honorably chairman Ritsuko Nakayama Pro appeared on CM of Suntory who is competitor of DHC, though Mr. Yoshida, chairman of DHC requested her not to do it. This is the definitely first reason why Mr. Yoshida decided to establish LBO, but it was also true that he really loves bowling, so DHC had supported JPBA for many years. The reason why he dissolved LBO seems to be behavior of a few directors in LBO. He was disgusted with them. It is not sure whether existence of LBO will bring any effects to JPBA in the future or it is simply forgotten. So now JPBA is one & only organization of professional bowling. On the other hand, There are 3 of different organization on bowling of amateur bowlers. They are JBC (Japan Bowling Congress), NBF (Nihon Bowlers Federation), and ABBF (All Japan Businessman’s Bowling Federation) It can’t be said that they are communicating closely. They have tournament and no exchange between each organization. Situation on bowling has not been favorable for many years, so some intellects doubt why they, including JBPA do not work together to recover popularity of bowling.
