Good read... Why am I pissed? This is my retirement plan, I do not pay into social security or have a 401k, I just have the (Police and Fire Retirement System) PFRS. Like most police officers, this is it, and Ive been paying into PFRS for almost 25 years. This year, I will pay approximately $12,000.00 in payroll deductions toward the pension system alone. The rules were changed already once in 2011 with a first round of pension and health care reform. I will pay close to $9,000.00 toward health insurance through payroll deductions this year alone. Ive accepted my end of the bargain, and understood these changes in 2011. I sit on both sides of the aisle, and the reform was needed back then, but not now. Were not the bad guys and all the continuous demonizing is so disheartening! I, like all police, firefighters and teachers, have never deviated from my/our obligations. Now, as Im approaching the finish line moving closer to retirement, there are more lies and deliberate political failures at the State level to our pension systems. I dont expect those in the private sector to be sympathetic, or to even begin to understand the frustrations of the public servant.
