Got the update from Crete today - My Grandmother, (who most of her children have resigned to believing she is a blinking vegetable, and dont visit and dont check up on her at her nursing home) was told by a friend of the family that her daughter (my mom) was coming soon from the US. Without a pause my Yiayia said Stella. The woman didnt understand...then she put it together. Stella-Maria? Yes, Yes My grandmother said. And then she ate some fruit all by herself. Vegetable my left foot. This woman knows. Treat your elderly kindly - they cannot react as fast, or process quickly but they are ours...they are there. Love them. That is all.
