Goulburn Cup Day preview Greg Polson - 24/11/2013 In a repeat of the 2012 Cup on pace runners look set to dominate the 2013 Goulburn Cup on Sunday. The Gai Waterhouse-trained Kinnersley raced on the speed to hold off Scream Machine in the 2013 cup and the horses likely to settle one two in the run on Sunday could well be one two when the judge calls a halt. An analysis of the early speed in the race suggests Cathay Lady and And Day Will Do can cross from wide gates to set the speed in the Doyles On The Beach Goulburn Cup (1600m). The John Sargent-trained Cathay Lady looks the value in the race. The Exceed And Excel mare’s hasn’t run a place in three runs this preparation but should be right at her peak for the 1600m on Sunday. The mare wasn’t disgraced in group races in her first two runs back this time before failing to run out the 2040m at Moonee Valley on October 25. Sargent has given the mare a 30 day freshen-up for Sunday’s assignment and will give take plenty of running down at her preferred 1600m journey. Any Day Will Do gives Guy Walter a great chance of winning his fifth Goulburn Cup. The four-year-old daughter of On Any Given Sunday is striving for three straight wins after winning at Warwick Farm on October 30 and a 1600m Randwick benchmark 70 on November 5. The Peter Snowden-trained Proverb’s second in the Seymour Cup on October 20 rates well especially after the third placegetter Lord Wimble was able to win at Moonee Valley on November 23. There are a couple of question marks on a couple of the likely favourites in the race. Taxmeifyoucan is yet to prove he can run out a strong 1600m whilst Scream Machine coming off group races this preparation certainly rates well for the race based on his two and a half length ninth in the Epsom behind Boban but will have to shoulder 59kg with the highest weight he has carried to victory previously being 56kgs and had 54kg when he ran second in the 2012 Cup. It looks like a mares and on pace quinella. The best bet on the program is the Danny Williams-trained Shout To The Top who is chasing back to back wins in the Harvey Norman Goulburn Class One Handicap. Shout To The Top gave nothing else a chance on debut at Goulburn winning by three and half lengths and the form from the race has held up superbly with the second, fourth and sixth horses from the race coming out and winning at their next start. The value bet of the day is the Sarah Murray-Leslie-trained King Brown striving for three straight wins in the Goulburn Bi-Rite Electrical Class Three Handicap (1600m). The son of Redoute’s Choice looks the only leader in the race and will be hard to run down at good odds.
