Governor Cuomo got liberal backing by a thread. Various reports on the blogosphere and elsewere on the interwebs suggest he got it by last minute concessions and an unspoken fear by the WFP that to take a stand in favor of the New Gal tossing her hat into the ring was too much of a risk. They wanted an established candidate to stand up to Republicans which is understandable; however, TEACHOUT got 46% approval, a very loud message that a majority are not satisfied with Governor Cuomos performance. Cuomo is criticized for governing more in keeping with Republican policies and ideals despite his party affiliation as a Democrat. Cuomo has been criticized for slashing Public Education funding in favor of Big Business Tax breaks, delaying a decision on fracking, not creating enough jobs and sitting on the fence when it comes to voting for minimum wage increases amongst other important issues. Take a moment to learn more about Zephyr Teachout...she is bright, she is articulate, she is a lawyer like a majority of The Others She TEACHES Law - therefore, shes not only qualified to LEAD, but also train those who call themselves Leaders...and contrary to what many think, shes not the ROOKIE most might assume. A few highlights from Nick Powells Article Who is Zephyr Teachout? Zephyr Teachout is an associate professor of law at Fordham University, where her bio reads that she brings a rich background in laws governing political behavior, both domestically and abroad, as well as the insights of her original work on corruption and its constitutional history. Before that she was a visiting assistant professor at Duke University, a lecturer at the University of Vermont and a non-resident fellow at the Berkman Center for Internet and Society at Harvard Law School. Teachout completed her undergraduate studies at Yale University, and holds a M.A. in political science and a law degree, both from Duke. In addition to the numerous legal essays and opinions Teachout has published, she has also written books...Her latest book, Corruption in America: From Ben Franklins Snuff Box to Citizens United, is set for a September release. Teachout helped orchestrate Howard Deans influential presidential campaign. Her documented experience with Dean who was lauded at the time for his innovative approach to campaign fundraising, is that of being the brains behind such innovation...Teachout knows how to mobilize people on the grassroots level. Before Cuomos ballyhooed Moreland Commission on Public Corruption was disbanded, Teachout was one of several candidates considered to author the commissions preliminary report, which was released in December. Teachout was considered because she had significant expertise in the areas of the Commissions focus, specifically public corruption... Teachout also submitted testimony to the Moreland Commission, giving historical context for public corruption laws, and making a case for public campaign financing. An excerpt from her testimony reads: New York has a choice right now: to rely solely on improving laws targeting corrupt individuals and continue to rack up corruption prosecutions, or to attempt to change the political culture by adopting public funding of campaigns that changes donor and candidate practice. When the Occupy Wall Street movement hit the streets of Lower Manhattan, Teachout embedded herself within the movement as an observer, as a participant in both the nightly General Assemblies and the Spokes Council (the body which became responsible for project funds) and as an active member of the Occupy Wall Street Activist Legal Working Group. She was also part of the legal team that worked on drafting a brief about the status of Zuccotti Park as a public forum. ### Zephyr Teachouts name might be new to some, but she has demonstrated a committed interest in public service throughout her career, building a slow and solid foundation of expertise in not only her knowledge base but leadership. Its time New York got away from the tried and true Boys Club which has disappointed and let a new generation of dynamic, creative and innovative leaders bring us into the 21st Century doing away with failed policies that have left so many behind for so long... Excerpted from: Despite dustup, NY Gov Cuomo gets liberal backing Teachout had faulted Cuomo for not doing enough to address income inequality and the influence of money in politics. “We’re seeing the worst inequality in 100 years right now, and right now, still, we (liberals) find ourselves fighting for scraps,” she said. Just because Cuomo got the backing of the WFP does not mean our voices wont be heard on Election Day...
