Governors; H.E Isaac Rutto- COG Chair & Bomet H.E Prof. Paul Chepkwony-Kericho H.E Dr Cleophas Langat - Nandi Tea Estate Leases Coming To An End But Land Vultures be put on Notice: The leases to most tea estates currently being owned by multi-national companies are expiring very soon. It does not take rocket science for one to understand that the land belong to the Kipsigis People having been taken from them by the British colonialists several years ago. The senate recently passed the Community Lands Bill just awaiting the presidential assent for it to become law.The bill was indeed well timed and would really go a long way in empowering the communities in managing their own land. Once the land leases to the tea farms in Nandi and Kericho expires the counstition has given the National Land Commission the mandate to make sure the land is transferred to our counties so that the local communities manage it. Information reaching us however is that land CS is being used by powerful government operatives to sabotage the whole transition. The CS for agriculture Felix Kosgey is said to be trying to use the Agricultural Land Act to make sure our land does not come to us. We want to therefore remind the two that section 15 of the Community Land Bill clearly states that Community land shall be managed by the Community Land Management Board, which shall be comprised of members of the resident community. We would not therefore allow this clandestine activities to happen and we are hence requesting that our gorvenors act swiftly and rescue the situation soonest through all the legal avenues available to them. The law must be respected and followed. Please governors ,save our resources and land.
