Grammar and the Spanish Praxis: There are grammar questions, but few. The test is dominated by the concept of understanding written and spoken Spanish by native speakers in various contexts, dialogues, and group conversations. Curiously, this test and the Spanish SAT are going to force teachers to change their methods or watch their students fail. Teachers can no longer dominate instruction with grammar explanations as they did in they old days. Textbooks can no longer dominate their pages with grammar explanations as they did in the old day. Today, both instructors and textbook companies must be dedicated to providing students with a plethora of reading, listening, and speaking opportunities. Textbooks should be filled with authentic language passages and reading comprehension questions to follow. They should provide a plethora of audio visual practice for students too, including listening comprehension practice questions. I would say that every chapter should have at least three separate passages on the same subject, so that students see the new vocabulary used on the same subject by different writers. At least a dozen, as a minimum, listening comprehension passages for students to practice in class with the teacher. Also, the textbook company should provide links to authentic videos or pod casts on the same theme if teachers want to do even more.
