Greetings to all my brothers and sisters my fellow Saints on FB. - TopicsExpress

Greetings to all my brothers and sisters my fellow Saints on FB. Does that sound a bit presumptive? It should not for I am in very good company, Paul used it as a greeting in many of his letters, for example, “Salute Philologus, and Julia, Nereus, and his sister, and Olympas, and all the saints which are with them.” (Romans 16:15) In fact the Bible uses “Saint” ninety-eight times! Thirty-six times the Old Testament calls the Israelites Saints and sixty-two times in the New Testament followers of Christ are called “Saints.” And by the way nowhere does the Bible give a test for who is a Saint, nowhere is there a requirement for miracles associated with the person and nowhere does the Bible call for a voting by a group of sinners! No matter how fancy their titles and pretty their robes! So what does that make the recent actions of the richest church in the whole world in making two men (who may not have even known the God of salvation) saints? Hypocrisy! Pure and simple hypocrisy! We are declared Saints by the act of Jesus not the will of men! No one is saved by works but “by grace though faith which is not of us” (Ephesians 2:8-9) and all who are saved are Saints! If the Bible declares it ninety-eight times that is good enough for me. Okay I will even skip the Old Testament references that still leaves us with sixty-two times that the New Testament calls followers of Jesus Saints. Pretty impressive in my humble opinion, and as good hermeneutic principles say to not build a doctrine on less than three agreeing verses, I would say it is a pretty safe doctrine that all born again believers are Saints! So to all my precious born again Catholic friends stop offering veneration to idols of people who if they are saints are only such due to accepting the blood of Christ and not the decision of man and start honoring the Saints who walk among you every day. How do we honor the Saints who are among us you might ask? By doing as Paul said, “Submitting your selves one to another in the fear of God.” (Ephesians 5:21) And by greeting one another with Paul’s salute, “Salute one another with an holy kiss. The churches of Christ salute you.” (Romans 16:16) So as I close this contentious devotion I salute you and extend greetings from the Saints in the household of Wells and on the island of Mactan.
