Grown Men Cry: Today I returned to the OSO Landslide and trudged - TopicsExpress

Grown Men Cry: Today I returned to the OSO Landslide and trudged my way out to the recovery Volunteers. They had just found a body in the mud. The guys told me that the son of the man found was also a volunteer and was at the spot. I stood with the man as the workers dug with hands in the mud, slope, twisted branches and so forth. He was not going to leave his dad. I was so proud of the volunteers as they carefully and respectfully dug in the impossible situation for more than two hours. The guy that seemed to be the lead digger would look up at the son every few minutes and give him a thumbs up. The son would tear up and say, Im here for you, dad I would tell the son, your dad would be proud of you. You are here for him At the appropriate time, the son decided to leave the scene and the recovery workers continued to dig in the watery mud for another hour. When the body was ready for removal, the 8 guys in the hole hugged, we had a moment of silence and prayer. As the men came up from their hard work, there was a silence and the pain and emotions were deep. I stood with these men, covered in stinky filthy mud and hugged them. These tough men and I stood and cried together. I stood next to some great heros that reunited a family. These guys were hurting, yet they knew they did an amazing thing. I shared privately with each of the guys about how important their task was. They did good, real good! Four of the eight men shared with me that they have friends and loved ones still missing....All I can say is, Grown Men Cry
