GOD GAVE THE SEVENTH-DAY SABBATH AT CREATION FOR ALL MEN. Gen 2:2-3 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made… And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it He rested from all his work. Sanctified means: To set apart to a sacred purpose. (Webster’s) Blesses means: Held in reverence. (Webster’s) WHEN GOD BROUGHT ISRAEL OUT OF FOUR HUNDRED YEARS OF EGYPTIAN CAPTIVITY, WHERE THEY WERE NOT PERMITTED TO WORSHIP GOD THE WAY HE HAD INSTRUCTED, GOD TAUGHT THEM THE SABBATH AGAIN. Exo 16:22-30 And it came to pass, that on the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for one man: and all the rulers of the congregation came and told Moses. And he said unto them, This is that which the Lord hath said, Tomorrow is the rest of the Holy Sabbath unto the Lord: bake that which ye will bake today, and seethe that ye will seethe, and that which remaineth over lay up for you to be kept until the morning. And they laid it up till the morning, as Moses bade: and it did not stink, neither was there any worm therein. And Moses said, Eat that today; for today is the Sabbath unto the Lord: today ye shall not find it in the field. Six days ye shall gather it: but on the seventh day which is. THE TEN COMMANDMENTS, GOD’S HOLY LAW, THE ROYAL LAW, THE LAW, ETC... Written by the hand of God (Exodus 24:12). On stone (Exodus 31:18), place inside the ark (Exodus 40:20), is perfect (Psalm 19:7), is eternal (Psalm 111:7-8), is holy, just and good (Romans 7:12), and not abolished by Christ (Matthew 5:17). Deuteronomy 10:1-5. “My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.” (Psalms 89:34. “For I am the Lord, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed. “ Malachi 3:6. “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Hebrews 13:8. The Sabbath, in it there shall be none. And it came to pass, that there went out some of the people on the seventh day for to gather, and they found none. And the Lord said unto Moses, How long refuse ye to keep my commandments and my laws” See, for that the Lord hath given you the Sabbath, therefore giveth you on the sixth day the bread of two days: abide ye every man in his place, let no man go out of his place on the seventh day. So the people rested on the seventh day. THE MANNA FELL. FOR FORTY YEARS, SIX DAYS A WEEK, BUT NONE ON THE SABBATH. GOD GAVE EVIDENCE OF HIS POWER AND GLORY TO MOSES AND THE PEOPLE OF ISRAEL TO IMPRESS UPON THEIR MINDS THAT HE ALONE WAS TO BE WORSHIPPED AND OBEYED. Exodus 19:16-25. And it came to pass on the third day in the morning, that there were thunders and lightings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of the trumpet exceeding loud; so that all the people that was in the camp trembled. And Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet with God: and they stood at the nether part of the mount. And Mount Sinai was all together on a smoke, because the Lord descended upon it in fire: and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly. And the voice of the trumpet sounded long, and waxed louder and louder, Moses spake, and God answered him by a voice. And the Lord came down upon mount Sinai, on the top of the mount: and the Lord called Moses up to the top of the mount: and Moses went up. And the Lord said unto Moses, Go down, charge the people, lest they break through unto the Lord to gaze, and many of them perish. And let the priests also, which come near to the Lord, sanctify themselves, lest the Lord break forth upon them forth. And Moses said unto the Lord, sanctify themselves, lest the Lord break forth upon them forth. And Moses said unto the Lord, The people cannot come up to mount Sinai: for thou chargedst us, saying, Set bounds about the mount. And sanctify it. And the Lord said unto him, Away, get thee down, and thou shalt come up, thou, and Aaron with thee: but let not the priests and the people break through to come up unto the Lord, lest he break forth upon them. So Moses went down unto the people, and spake unto them. GOD GAVE THE TEN COMMANDMENTS AS A HEDGE TO PROTECT HIS PEOPLE. THE FIRST FOUR SHOW OUR LOVE AND DUTY TO GOD. Exodus 20:1-6. And God spake all these words, saying, I am the Lord thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shall not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shall not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and forth generation of them that hate me: And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments. THERE IS A CORRELATION BETWEEN LOVING GOD AND KEEPING HIS COMMANDMENT. Exodus 20:7-11. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain: for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.
