HELP A FELLOW FOLLOWER? She asks: My son is nearly three and goes part time to a childminder (home daycare). She had a child nearly two years ago who was born with a serious medical condition. However, for well over a year now she (the child) has been doing really well and has been playing alongside the other kids. Sadly, this little girl died very suddenly a few days ago. This is the first time we will need to speak to my son about death and Im at a bit of a loss as to how best to tell him what happened, I dont think he even knew she was ill. Also, one of the other families is fairly religious. (Were not. At all.) We see them a lot and our kids are very close in age. Im sure they will give their daughter a religious explanation and we obviously wont so Im also wondering how best to handle that. Is nearly three too young to start talking about people believing different things? Will that make sense to him? Or will it scare him that a girl he used to see several days a week has disappeared and we cant even agree on what happened? PLEASE BE KIND AND SUPPORTIVE
