HELP CHILDREN INTERNALIZE OPPRESSION In Cambodia today, we have a so-called the Soul Wounds that our youngsters inflict upon one another. These wounds can result in internalized oppression, meaning that children with inferiority complex usually subscribe to the other groups negative stereotype. How can we help these children to heal the soul wounds?. There are several ways to help them uncovering internalized oppression: 1. Sharing personal story [of how you do it] is one of the great significances 2. Discuss with children what media images of their group look like 3. How such images affect their sense of themselves as well as others 4. Consider how similar dynamics of berating particular group play out 5. How they struggle with their khmer traits in a mixed population context 6. How to repair damages that were done by uncontrollable events 7. How to keep or discard disparaged traitss they see in themselves Cambodian children need to live and to learn in a positive environment that nourtures their growth and development. Long before ever setting forth to engage them compassionately in an analysis of how disparaging treatments of self can arise, we must start becoming aware of the soul wounds inflicted by young group members on themselves. Our awareness of such dynamics promises surely can help Cambodian children to humanize and enrich the society where they belong. Ive heard all the times of the word Bamboo-shoots are the future bamboo or children are the future. But not adequate program or activities to enhance such good thoughts. Besty regards,
