HMS Bedham was a Ham class minesweeper of the Royal Navy, numbered M2606. She was launched in 1953, sold to Malaysia and renamed Lanka Suka in 1959 and scrapped in 1967. The Ham class minesweepers were powered by Paxman diesel engines, manufactured by Davey Paxman, an engineering company founded in 1898. Also in 1898, the Curies announced the discovery of radium. Radium Hot Springs, in British Columbia, is 2606 km from Madison, Wisconsin, the second largest city in Wisconsin after, wait for it, Milwaukee. In Milwaukee you might wish to visit the Mitchell Gallery of flight, which has amongst its exhibits, the Graf Zeppelin II, sister ship to the Hindenburg. Led Zeppelin II was the second album from Led Zeppelin released in 1969. Led Zeppelins bass player changed his name from John Baldwin to John Paul Jones. Another John Paul Jones captained the Drake and led the American invasion of Whitehaven in 1788. Also in 1788, the Day of the Tiles took place in Grenoble, France which is credited by some historians as being the start of the French Revolution which resulted in the creation of the French Republic. A not quite so successful republic was formed at the end of the English Civil War, the last battle of which was the Battle of Worcester in 1651. Just up the road from Worcester is Broadheath, where composer Edward Elgar was born in 1857. In 1917 Elgar moved to Brinkwells Cottage in, wait for it, Bedham. Spooky!
