HOOD NEWS #CHIRAQ A 16-year-old boy was killed and his father critically wounded minutes after they left a restaurant in the Belmont Gardens neighborhood on the Northwest Side, according to police and witnessses. Adam Lara was shot in the head and his father was struck in the back in the 2800 block of North Kenneth Avenue around 3:30 pm. Monday, authorities said. The two had left the restaurant and were walking toward their car when they became involved in an argument with two other people, according to Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Ana Pacheco. As the father and son got into the car, someone ran up and started shooting, Pacheco said. Lara, who lived in the 4000 block of North Central Park Avenue, was pronounced dead at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, according to the Cook County medical examiners office. His father was taken in critical condition to the same hospital, authorities said. Area North detectives were investigating. At least three other people were injured in shootings hours later on the South and Southwest sides: • About 11:30 p.m., a 33-year-old man was shot in the leg as he stood in an alley in the 2500 block of West Thomas Street. The shooter had fired from a passing vehicle, police said. The man was taken to Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center, where he was listed in good condition. • A 22-year-old man was critically injured in a shooting about 12:25 a.m. in the Back of the Yards neighborhood, police said. The man was shot in the chest in the 5400 block of South Paulina Street and was taken to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County in critical condition, Police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said. • About 9:40 p.m., a 16-year-old boy arrived at Holy Cross Hospital after being shot in the 7100 block of South St. Louis Avenue in the Marquette Park neighborhood. Police said the shooter had stepped out of a beige Dodge Durango and opened fire through a fence, hitting the boy in the lower thigh. The boy was listed in good condition. • A 21-year-old man suffered a graze wound in the Stony Island Park neighborhood when someone started shooting from a passing dark-colored car about 9:35 p.m., police said. The man was standing on the sidewalk in the 8300 block of South Cregier Avenue when the shooting happened, police said.
