HYPOCRITES (MUNAFIQOON), THEIR SIGNS AND WHAT THEY DO Praise be to Allaah ﺳﺒﺤﺎﻧﻪ ﻭﺗﻌﺎﻟﻰ ! Throughout the Islamic history, the hypocrites (munafiqoon) have played and still play a major role in maligning the true believers, and they do not waste any opportunity to mislead and create confusion among Muslims. Unfortunately, this practice is still evident around us and across the world in the form of institutions, governments and individuals or group of people whom we associate or interact with. They are proactively pursuing their mission to create misconceptions and portraying negative images of Islam. You will also find some hypocrites among your family, friends and colleagues, so be very careful before you trust them: test them if they are genuinely trustworthy and have no selfish motives. In the Qur’an one complete surah (Munafiqoon C: 63) along with a number of hadiths clearly explained and identified the characteristics of hypocrites. Our beloved last and final Prophet Muhammad ( ﷺ) warned us about them, and instructed to keep away from them and said, “Do not make them your friends.” So please be aware of hypocrites, look around (within non-Muslims and Muslim communities) and see who are your true friends and genuine well- wishers. And be very careful of their tricks, softly-softly, sympathetic, double standards and friendly approach that will backlash and likely to drag you towards bad deeds. The following are some of the major signs of hypocrites - so be aware of them: 1. Hypocrites are double-faced and compulsive LIARS; 2. They backbite and spread RUMOURS; 3. They do not keep their PROMISE; 4. They are UNTRUSTWORTHY and CUNNING; and 5. They pretend to be your FRIEND, but stab you from the back. May ALLAAH ﺳﺒﺤﺎﻧﻪ ﻭﺗﻌﺎﻟﻰ protect us from hypocrites; guide us on the straight path, and that we (Muslims) fulfil our religious and humanitarian obligations best to our knowledge and ability without any personal or financial motives - Aameen! Please share this post with your family, friends or whomever you think it would benefit, as this is part of our awareness project and obligatory duty. Your noble effort will ( ﺇﻧﺸﺎﺀﺍﻟﻠﻪ ) be rewarded both in this world and hereafter - Jazakumu Allaahu Khayran.
