Had a beautiful walk with my dogs at drumbeg this morning. A - TopicsExpress

Had a beautiful walk with my dogs at drumbeg this morning. A little chilly, but still clear and warm when you stay away from the wind and in the sun. My retriever/border collie doesnt care what the weather or temp is doing, shes in the water almost before I can get her leash off. The other, small for even a Chihuahua, is always a concern with predator birds when were at the beach or any open spaces, or even at night with the raccoons. Unfortunately, she also has big dog syndrome whenever she runs into a cat, deer, person, other dog, raccoon, etc., while being a total delicate little doily every other moment of her life. At any rate, I too saw a very large, very beautiful hawk, looked red, so Im going to make a guess that it was indeed a red tail hawk. Not quite as excited to see it as it perched near the top of a tree only a few yards from us, and leashed the chiwawa (English translation lol), while hiding her a bit under the table I was writing on. But the hawk took off only a minute or so later. I think the winter coat plays a large part in protecting her from more than just the elements. Likely without having a clue, the designers made the coat quite bulky for the coldest weather, which helps make her look bigger, but more than that is the colour and pattern, which Im sure throws off the predators having never seen anything like this before. If they have seen anything resembling the look of this jacket about her size, the most likely cross reference would have to be a skunk! This is truly an awesome dog coat! Unfortunately, this doesnt mean I can relax any more, or get lazy about keeping an eye or two on her, since it would only take one successful snatch by a large bird, or ground predator, to be the end of her! Oh, but it does also help to have a crazy retriever/border collie around to stun and confuse predators enough to guess hunting may be easier elsewhere... Post some pics later when I get them off my phone, once my phone returns home with my partner, that is. With Spring finally arriving, Im hoping to get out a lot more with my camera, and have lots of incredible nature stories to share here. Cheers everyone! Hope all of Gabriola is out there enjoying the good weather now that its here!
