Had my OTES lesson today with a twist. The planned date was going to have to be changed due to a meeting my observer had to be at so I had someone video my lesson with my students. It was an intro to Plate Tectonics. I used tier texts leveled at my students reading level. I opened with having each student with a smiley face stickers, place where their birth place was and then I questioned them... how long did it take your to get to the U.S.? I then open with the word Pangaea compared a hard boiled egg to the layers of the Earth and gave each student an orange... had them peel it and opened it and labeled the peel the crust the inside the mantle and the very center the core. I had them put the peels back on the orange and asked them how are the pieces of the peel like the Earth..... then added a Literary book to reinforce the vocabulary and then had a diagram that they could color in showing the layers. A concept map with vocabulary that I introduced which will be put on the wall and words will be added as we go through the unit..... could type more but am now making games for 6th grade to reinforce minerals and the properties used to identify them........
