Had to share...about our dad, from one of his previous students/players: Hey Coach...just sitting here watching this pre-season game thinking about you. Im going to throw coach under the bus a little with his age. Not sure if many people remember but before coach was at Mariner and other high schools he was at Caloosa Elementary. He was our PE teacher. Im 40 now so that was in the 84-85 area. We had some epic flag football games on Fridays and coach was the QB for the games. As some of us were leaving heading off to middle school coach sat a group of us down and talked to us about following your dreams and being successful. He also explained to us that he was a cancer survivor and never take life for granted and go out and make the most of it. Middle school passed and when I entered my freshmen year again there was coach. He would again be my PE teacher and also my football coach. He pushed us, mentored us, chewed our butts out when we needed it also. And after he chewed you out that was it, it didnt keep it up. He explained what you did wrong and explained and encouraged you to be better. He motivated you and made you better. My senior year, my grandpa passed away on a Friday before a game. I was a young man and had never suffered a loss of a family member before. I didnt know if I would be able to play that night. Coach pulled me in the office, talked to me and prayed for me and with me. I put my head on his shoulder and cried. I played that night because of you coach. You taught us how to become men and morals and character. I remember you said in a post last year, you had an administrator tell you that you cared too much for your students. Funny thing is, Ive never forgot those life lessons I learned from you. Your caring impacted my life and it was a great time in my life. I pray for you and your health. Some of the greatest memories of school and sports involved you. God bless and take care.
