Happy Birthday Kate Chopin, author of THE AWAKENING. There are many great feminist authors but the four books that blew me away as a young woman--and still do today-- come from the turn of the century. When I think of the harsh criticism these women endured and the courage of voice, I am in awe. Such originality and intent! If you havent yet read these short stories and novels, I highly recommend you or your book club take them on. They are enormously thought provoking and will encourage discussion. Great reads. A Room of One’s Own, Virginia Woolfe, 1929 Take time today and treat yourself to a short story. You can get A Jury of Her Peers online free from Google and it is a very short, very powerful read.
