Happy Preemie Day. My girls were born 6 weeks early, Julia weighed 2.9 and Sarah weighed 3.14. Both had severe medical issues that go along with not only being a preemie but also with being a multiple. I will never forget the day they were born and rushed to the NICU where they would spend their first 6 weeks of life. Beeps, noise, tubes, monitors, medicine, heart rate drops, CO2 drops, gvage feedings, brain bleeds, not breathing, jaundice and ventilators were common everyday things we saw or heard the many hours we spent trying to bond with our babies. Hard to do when you are not allowed to touch them. That was 17 years ago. It was the worst and the best experience of my life. RSV, heart issues, couldnt walk, splints to wear on legs and feet, casted to stretch muscles in legs, appointment after appointment at the Child development center, massive reflux, and lots of ear infections. All this times 2. Now they are beautiful seniors in high school, both making good grades, play high school tennis, work at the local vet taking care of animals, babysit many ages and developmental levels, volunteers for special ed. Kids....preemie to young women. It has need been easy but I loved every minute of raising my daughters. I love you both sarah and Julia. You will both always be my little beanie babies..
