Happy Thursday! Family, friends and supporters! I know most of you guys children are back in school or preparing to go back any day now. We received several tweets from parents on our twitter page twitter/LondonKidney asking about after-school care. So today I wanted to share with everyone 3 resources that might help those who needs before / after school care. 1). YMCA- Many people forgets that the YMCA is a great cost effective choice for after school care. At almost every YMCA before and after-school care is available for children in elementary school, with ages ranging from 5 – 12 years old. Some of them also offer before and after school care for middle school students, so please contact your nearest location for specific details. 2). State child care assistance programs – Some parents dismiss the option they might have through their own state with child care. This program helps families with low to moderate incomes pay for child care. If you are eligible for assistance, you’ll have to pay a portion of the cost of child care, but what you pay will be based on how much your family makes (sliding scale fees). The percentage you’re required to pay will vary depending on where you live. Contact your local Department of Human Service and ask them about their qualification for the Child Care Assistance Program. 3). Another great idea is to check with your child’s school. Unfortunately, a lot of schools will not advertise that they have such services – but many schools offer after school programs ran by the school and some offer special services provided by specialists coming from outside the school. Some examples are sports, gymnastics, music lessons, art and other activities. You just have to ask! So call your childs school or send a quick note to his/her teacher. Cheers!
