Harold B. Miller, 83, former mayor of Decatur, IN died at Woodcrest Nursing Center on Wednesday, October 2, 2013. Harold was born on December 30, 1929 in Jay County, IN to the late Perry S. and Fern (Huey) Miller. On October 28, 1950 he married Mary Lou Hofstetter. She preceded him in death on October 1, 1995. Harold was the owner of Miller’s Meat Market from 1979-1993 and he served as the Mayor of Decatur from 1976-1988. He was a 50 year member of the Moose, President of the Decatur Little League and a Hall of Fame Bowler in Adams County. Survivors include three sons Scott Miller, Mike (Jan) Miller and Jeff (Kelley) Miller all of Decatur; five daughters Cheryl Maller of Maumee, OH, Linda (Norb) Hess of Edwardsburg, MI, Janet (Gary) Smith of Decatur, Deb (Rod) Owens of Delaware, OH and Patti Miller-Johnson (Gary Ayers) of Roanoke, IN; a brother Perry E. Miller of Union City, IN; 21 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers Howard, Gerald, Larry and Darrel; ½ brother Earl; three sisters Inez Baker, Doris Charleston and Bernice Weigel; and two ½ sisters Elma Shanebarger and Edna Fogel. Visitation will be on Saturday, October 5, 2013 from 1:00-8:00 p.m. at Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home and 1 hour prior to funeral service on Sunday. Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, October 6, 2013 also at the funeral home. Rev. Randy Rossman will be officiating and burial will be in Decatur Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to United Way of Adams County.
