Have you ever experienced a demanding love? Have you ever had something happen that God has used to put a love in your heart for a person or place that is so strong, so challenging, that itches your deepest being and won’t let you rest, that takes you by the scruff of the neck and shakes you to your very core and demands DO SOMETHING? The Dignity & Hope Foundation, Cambodia is a response to that God given, demanding, uncomfortable love. In 2010 Sally Corfe visited Cambodia for the first time, and worked with a small Christian organisation called Kone Kmeng, based in the capital city Phnom Penh, , working to free ordinary people from the clutches of overwhelming poverty resulting from the genocide of the 1970’s. Following that trip, with DO SOMETHING loud and clear in her mind, Sally made contact with Claire Lacey, living in Bristol, who had also worked with Kone Kmeng in the past. They got together, reminisced and shared the thoughts created by the demands of the love they both shared for Cambodia. In 2012, having had no rest from the demands of that love, Sally returned to Cambodia, accompanied by a friend Philippa Blowfield, and the demands grew stronger and more real…DO SOMETHING! Responding to those demands, Philippa, Claire and Sally have set up a brand new UK based Christian charity, to support the work of Kone Kmeng and other similar groups working to free Cambodian people to live lives of dignity and hope. Tired of seeing this beautiful, vibrant country defined by its genocidal history and association with the killing fields, DHF Cambodia has adopted Psalm 27 verse 13, believing it to be God’s promise to the people of Cambodia. “I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.” If you too have a demanding love in your heart…DO SOMETHING!
