Have you heard about the new space simulator game being developed called Star Citizen? It is being developed by Chris Roberts in the vein of his wildly successful Wing Commander series. It promises to revolutionize online gaming, not only in its content and features but in the way it is being developed. It is fully funded by the backing of future players, which so far has been wildly successful with funding recently surpassing the $50 million mark. Its being concurrently developed in modules released in pre-alpha form for player testing, to eventually assemble into the full game. The game functions entirely in first person mode and in battle players experience it all from a first person viewpoint from the interior of their ship, able to move about and interact with each other. It will have a persistent universe, in which the development and history of the universe itself will be a composite of all the activities of the players within... a real life type experience where players live, work, play, conduct trade, explore new worlds, and wage battle... without levels, magic spells or tights (well, maybe tights for those so inclined). Its just the beginning, but is already incredible.
