Have your say: Every day, 20,000 girls below age 18 give birth in developing countries Each year, 7.3 million girls below age 18 give birth in developing countries. Of these, 2 million are under age 15. Becoming a mother too young not only derails the development of young girls and prevents them from reaching their full potential but it is also a risk to their lives: An estimated 70,000 adolescents in developing countries die each year from complications during pregnancy and childbirth. To prevent this from happening, we must tear down the social, economic and geographic barriers to girls’ access to information and services to enable them to make choices to prevent pregnancy.
