Heading to the barn on the last leg of the Ida Lewis Distance - TopicsExpress

Heading to the barn on the last leg of the Ida Lewis Distance Race, Sat. 16 August aboard the Rodger Martin Designed Class 40 Spray/Icarus sailing as North Sails Youth Challenge. This RI built boat was graciously on loan (see posts below) from the USMMA Sailing Foundation in the guise of Ralfie Steitz. Conditions on this Saturday afternoon are near perfect. Waves big enough to surf, beam to broad reaching angle with enough pressure to break into the teens of boat speed regularly, sunny, warm, a great group of young ladies and gentlemen with their mates all having fun sailing a great race on a great boat in a great location. You will read it elsewhere but I think it is so great I repeat here. I think this was a fantastic effort with 28% of the fleet posting a DNF, the Prout kids hung in there. This was despite a long, hard beat from Buzzards Bay Tower to Montauk point in a nasty little sea on Friday night that was just a bit too grueling for a couple of the team. For those who stick to it, this was their reward. Well done team.
