Headlines by Steve 1. Arrest 90 year old Food Kitchen worker for feeding homeless. 2. Departure of common sense: just make giant nails- take the rest of the day off. Why more laws and legislation is not the answer. 3. $2.7 billion dollar income splitting program: how it wont help anyone I know I read an article about how we can Food Safety and bureaucratize ourselves to death. This video showing a 90-year old clergyman (who has been feeding the poor for decades) being arrested for his crime. This demonstrates how the law of the land can start to become the ridiculous. vimeo/110782240 I remember a story about Russian workers who had to produce X amount of Nails every day. One day a worker figured out that if they made giant nails, they met their quota and worked a quarter of the day. It wasnt right, but it was permitted. Are we sliding into this same type of thinking in North America, where what is permitted and what is common sense are at odds? Think about the Income-splitting announcement by our government. Who is going to get $2000 in tax saving? 20% are single mom homes so write them off. The majority of working class families make around the same amount (not enough) and struggle with child care costs until the kids are old enough to come home from school on their own. So right them off. A couple with low earnings have nothing to split, and nothing to gain from splitting. When both spouses/partners are working at low wages, they will be in the same tax bracket, and will not get any benefit from income splitting. One worker would have to quit working altogether to get even a small benefit from income splitting. And that sacrifice, in terms of family incomes, is just too high to receive pocket change from the government to help make that sacrifice. If I am making $183,000 and split my income with my wife, I will get around $1750 back. Now can you come up with a $2.7 billion dollar (the cost of this income splitting program to you and I) idea that is better than what the Feds are doing?
