Health Minister commends Project Malawi Consortium for HIV/ Aids fight Minister of Health Catherine Gotani-Hara has hailed Project Malawi Consortium for complimenting government’s efforts in mitigating the impact of HIV and Aids among the people in the country. Speaking during National Stakeholders Conference held under the theme:Partnership for sustainable HIV/AIDS impact mitigation in Lilongwe, she said, government is pleased with Project Malawi through its main partners, the (DREAM), Save the Children, CISP and Malawi Girl Guides Association. “We have observed significant progress in a number of areas since its inception. They have been focusing in some of the priority areas of national HIV and Aids programs like psychosocial support, Early Childhood Development, strengthening prevention, diognosis and treatment of HIV and Aids and income generation among others ,” she said. She said Malawi will always take HIV and Aids head because of its devastating effects and impact on the population. Our responsibility as government will always be to make our population stays health, productive and support their families regardless of the presence of the disease. Minister of Health Catherine Gotani Hara: Grateful to Project Malawi Project Malawi Country Coordinator Ellard Alumando said the project which works in phases is currently in Phase 111 and is a continuation of implementation of projects taken over from Phase II. “Our overall objective is preventing the spread of HIV infection among Malawians, provide access to treatment for people infected and mitigate the health, social economic and physiological impact of HIV/AIDS on individuals, families, communities and the nation,” he said. He added that this phase is primarily an HI/AIDS impact mitigation that largely focuses on addressing challenges that Orphans and vulnerable Children (OVC) face. A number of OVC’s has generally been on the increase in Malawi in the recent years as a result of increasing HIV/AIDS driven mortality, he said. However the project is being implemented in Lilongwe, Balaka and Blantyre.
