Heard about this from a friend and am sure this will be news to a lot of you. Basically, on an island part of Denmark (Faroe Islands), it is a tradition to kill a whale/dolphin to represent a coming-of-age. In Denmarks defense, the Faroe Islands are given their own jurisdiction and are not under the direct control of the Danish govt. While the whale-kills are supposedly sustainable, they are also killing hundreds of dolphins...(The cetacean family, consisting of dolphins and whales are considered the smartest animals inhabiting the ocean.) Dolphins are the 2nd smartest animal behind the beautiful human race. The Faroese have been doing this for centuries, but in modern times the kills are now symbolic rather than out of necessity. copied i hope this isnt true
