Hebrews 9:28, "So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation." He was also the Ultimate Scapegoat which bore the sins of each of us and who carried our iniquities upon himself through the wilderness of this world. During the days Jesus was living, He was the Scapegoat, sent into this world (wilderness) to bear the sins of many, not to do away with the law, but to fulfill it! See the world in which Jesus lived was a wilderness for this reason,"He came unto his own, and his own received him not." John 1:11
