Hello Howard, (Hi.) We can point to a lot of reasons for the incredible successes the NAACP has seen over the past five years, but much of it would not have been possible without the leadership of outgoing President Benjamin Todd Jealous. We thank him for all of his hard work. (Thank you Mr. Jealous.) And as we undergo this exciting transition to new leadership, I am honored to introduce you to an incredible woman and a fierce advocate for civil and human rights who will help lead Americas oldest, boldest, and largest civil rights organization as interim president of the NAACP. Her name is Lorraine C. Miller. Welcome her with a quick note, telling her about the issues that are most important to you. (OK.) There is so much I can tell you about our incredible new interim president. Like how she was the first African-American, and the third woman, to serve as an officer of the U.S. House of Representatives — taking on the role of House Clerk for nearly five years beginning in 2007. Or that her heart will always be in Texas, where she loves to golf, cheer on the Dallas Cowboys, and tend to her 36 cows! (We like her already...:-) And, most importantly, that her track record as Washington D.C. branch president and member of the NAACP Board of Directors demonstrates a deep, personal commitment to the issues that define the modern day struggle for civil rights and human rights. Lorraine is the Chair of the Advocacy and Policy Board Committee. Interim President Miller is one of us. Join me in welcoming her today: (Again, OK.) action.naacp.org/welcome-message Thank you, (My pleasure...:-) Roslyn M. Brock, Chairman NAACP National Board of Directors
