Hello. My name is Ilona and I am studying textile art in Austria. I want to apply for a scholar ship with my idea of traveling to Iceland to learn more about knitting, traditional knitting in Iceland and patterns. In a time where it is way more cheaper to buy a sweater than wool and knitting your own I find it fascinating to learn more about the roots and foundations. And Iceland is -together with Norway and the fair isle- probably one of the little countries left with a strong knitting tradition. In order to apply I have to write an essay on why I should get funded and a plan of my travels. I was wondering if you could recommend me literature on traditional Icelandic knitting or any places someone should or could go to in order to get to know Icelandic knitting. I have to apply with an essay on my motivations, a description of my trip and an idea of how I would document my travels or what kind of art work I would present. What I would probably love the most would be to make a sweater from scratch. I can knit, I picked it up really fast. Making it from scratch would mean shearing a ship, spinning, dying, knitting. If you have any ideas or recommendations -Thank you! Ilona
