Hello Runners/Walkers, Before we get into the routes we - TopicsExpress

Hello Runners/Walkers, Before we get into the routes we have a few announcements. First is a message from Dawn... Thanks so much to all of you who jumped right in to sign up with the water stops! It is so greatly appreciated! I want to take a moment to give you all some stats. So far this year, we have had 36 Saturdays of runs. In that time, we have had 68 water stops set up and anywhere from 2 to 200 people stopping at them one or more times. 27 people have volunteered to put up those stops, and we are truly blessed. 5 people have put out stops so far this year 5 or more times! (Those individuals have my utmost appreciation, and if you want to let them know how much you appreciate them, please thank Shayla Holtkamp, Randy Swonder, Lisa Myers, Alex Contreras, and Patrick Pierz.) Please help us finish the rest of the year strong. You can do this by volunteering to put out a stop and/or by making sure you are a paid member of our Running Club. That money goes to pay for the cups, coolers, tables, kleenex, cups, Gatorade, Powerade, containers, trash bags, cups, and sugary goodness. Did I mention the cups? :-) Also, if you have suggestions or ideas on how to make the water stops more appealing for volunteers, please email me at [email protected]. Rumor has it that I may do a drawing at the end of the year for a gift certificate, and anyone who puts out a water stop would be eligible.... Its no Cummins truck, but who doesnt love to win something? Thanks again to everyone who has given their time to help out with the Club in any capacity. We are truly blessed! This meeting is open to all Running Club members and interested non-members. Now, who is excited about our longest distance of training yet? Its finally here and the weather is looking fantastic! Youve sacrificed so much and put in such a terrific effort - channel all that to make this your best run/walk yet. Mental preparation is just as crucial as physical. Join us in the Sears parking lot at 7. Here is the plan for this weekend (Routes are attached)... 5Kers: A full 5K route is attached. (Please use the water fountains at the tennis courts as your water stop) Half Marathoners: 12 miles Full Marathoners: 22 miles (repeat 11 mile route). Some things you should know: There will be corral signs at the start of the race (A-L) - look on your bib for your corral. This will allow you to line up according to your approximate pace (minutes/mile). Please, please, do this as it will make it a lot more comfortable for you and the people around you. If you line up with people who are too fast for you, you will get run over or you will be encouraged to go out way too fast. Remember, your time does not start until you cross the line. This year there will also be a wave start. Each corral will be released 30 seconds after the previous one. This will significantly ease congestion. Dont worry, your time does not start until you cross the start line. Practice your race week preparations: eating, sleeping, laying out your clothes, etc. We will demonstrate proper race water-stop technique this Saturday. I will send out Tips for the race next week. This will give you a good list of things to help make this a great race weekend for you. After this week, we start our taper to the race. Good times! We are really going to see the city this week! Be safe and courteous on the roads and trails. Good luck, and see you Saturday. Brandi
