Here I am, my song. The Seafarer, in his feeling of being in the beginning again through his-- Ode To My Daughter, Rose In Your Bosom, Lord, I entrust Grant the protection, the protection accorded me For those long and difficult times I clung on you, I ask My daughter, my only one. Oh! daughter, daughter, my beloved daughter Treading the path of his father’s path THE feeling of wanting of the foothpath Of his father footsteps For a life and soul, a taste Of a sailor, here at sea. Oh! daughter, daughter my beloved daughter I said, “No,” you said, “Yes.” I said, “don’t ,” but, you insist Who am I to say, No To rebuff and deny you The freedom to decide, is what yours What is best for you, just follow your dream I, only, is my trust on you. Oh! daughter, daughter, my beloved daughter Treading the path of his father path In the wee of night, I wake up, to jot down what I think And in between yawning, arise this couplet To plot the things I know in the path, when in the sea “Don’t do this,” “don’t do that,” “do this,” and, “do that” Still, your freedom to decide, prevail on thee Who am I, your father, for it is yours Free, born to be free As free as birds. You said to me my beloved daughter “Aquarius! Aquarius! Daddy, is my vessel assignment,” Happy my girl, for it is Aquarius, what your father said; For Aquarius is the 11th sign of the zodiac Represented by a man pouring water Lasting from January 20 throughout Feb 18 By the ruling planet Saturn and Uranus Coincide with your zodiac sign on Earth. Did you say goodbye to your friends and loved ones And did they say, “Good luck,” in return Did your mother say, “I love you,” and, You say, I Love you too, mama.” No needs to me for I feel you love me How simple it is, to say those words But important of all the wealth of the world. On the day after your departure, my beloved daughter I look in the sky, here at sea And I see a big bird flying high in the sky For I know you are there, my beautiful daughter To bring you in the situation the same as your father Here at sea and away from home. You know my beloved daughter what a seafarer is; I cried a lot, a bowl of tears My pillow is wet, even the time I jot down this poem Looking, longing and yearning Thinking every loved one at home Be strong, for I know you are strong As your father is strong. Remember, remember, my beloved daughter You are not a tourist there, to live luxurious But to lend your hands, Service To The World To work and work, day and night To take care not you, but to take care others With love and devotion Commitment and dedication Toward your work As a true Filipino seafarers And ambassador of Goodwill But rest when times permit. Always, smile, smile and smile!!! Whenever somebody look upon you “Good morning, mam,” “Good morning, sir,” But, be sure it is not afternoon For you cannot see the sun above On its shining and setting down below Oh! daughter, daughter my beloved daughter Please, don’t make me laugh. I am confused, what is now You’ll leave for sea, for I’m at sea When you are in, I’m is out You are out, I’m is in How can we see, I’m confused In and out. What a complicated Heraclitus, our life is. Go ahead my beloved daughter You have a blessing from your father at sea You’ve got this dream without a help from me But on your own, own and own Arm nothing other than, with good virtues in school Only, be good and do good For your father is good Think good, for, you think I think, therefore I am, therefore we are forever I love you with all my heart. Bye, bye, bye and bye. Penned by Alex M. Derecho, The Father, a sonnet to daughter made on the eve of night lighted by the twinkling beautiful multitude stars in heaven right after a day of departure for a sea try as career.
