Here are ten scientific truths which are well accepted by scientists but not by the public. These things are not a controversy to people educated on the matter, but are somehow still hotly contested issues: 1. Global Warming is happening 2. GMO crops are absolutely safe 3. Vaccines are effective & dont cause autism 4. Evolution is true (verified by DNA) 5. Fluoridated water is safe and effective 6. Cell phones are safe/dont cause cancer 7. The Big Bang happened 13 billion-ish years ago. 8. The Earth is 4.6 billion years old 9. Cleanse fads and diets do not work 10. Astrology (zodiac, horoscopes) is a myth. Positions of constellations do not determine our personalities or our destinies. My point is, if you are willing to put your confidence in the wonderful people wearing lab coats for any of these points, you should strongly consider putting your confidence in all of these points. It isnt a matter of faith...it is a matter of respecting the thousands or millions of hours of thankless toil. Also keep in mind that proving any of these things wrong will get you a Nobel prize. So please, dont spread misinformation about science issues. It sets everyone back and perpetuates fear. We live in a country that is technologically advanced but yet our average citizens scientific literacy is less than a 5th grade understanding. We can change for the better just by educating ourselves.
