Here is Dante singing a song he wrote in the festival. I am sharing this song in the interests of helping him develop as a performer. I helped Raymonds father, Dean Shurtz, years ago after I heard his remarkable voice. He did not however think he could ever learn to play the guitar so for a time he did not sing very much at all in public. Then his best friend and first cousin Pole Griffin who always sang with him if he was present solved the problem by deciding he would learn to play the guitar. As soon as he became proficient enough on the guitar then we could promote them to play to our parties or wherever there was a crowd to be entertained. Raymond, our son, also solved the problem of who was going to play for his dad and him to sing when Pole was gone by learning to play the guitar. Dante took to the guitar right away after Raymond gave him one for his birthday one year. His singing and song writing came later. It is fascinating because Dante is my grandson who is not descended from the extremely talented Dean. His granddad, Ron Hitt, won me over by singing Johnny Mathis songs all night on our first date. Ron sang in the style of a number of singers, including Earnest Tubbs and other country western singers. What is more he could sing songs all night I had never even heard. He said that his dad had played the guitar in a band in his youth. I met his Dad and at the age of 84 he was going out dancing every weekend. Ron was also notable for dancing on roller skates. He would find something to drum on where ever we went. So since I cant sing a lick, Dante obviously inherited some talent from an other source. But not being able to sing did not stop me from being a singing husbands biggest promoter. I promote singers with great passion. Dancers as well as writers and actors and artists. Dante can already strum that guitar very fast. When he gets more confidence, I say watch out! He will move us right out of our seats with his physical power alone on the guitar, his passion, and his driving energy. He is getting the chance now to see what he can do with a festival audience. My son Raymond has become the biggest promoter of talent, thank goodness. I am getting a little old and feeble. Ha.
