Here is a picture of a BNSF Railway/ex-ATSF Railway bridge over Lexington Avenue (former K-10 highway) in De Soto, Kan. The bridge is on an industiral spur off of the Topeka Sub. The spur currently serves some plants in a De Soto industrial park. The spur was originally a short ATSF branch that served the former Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant south of De Soto after it was established during World War II. Cant say when the last train was sent to the old ammunition plant. Trains in and out of the De Soto industrial park move infrequently, although someone may know if there is a pattern to the switching. From the track layout, it would appear the power on a local has to head south into the area served and then back into each industry. After cars are piicked up, then there is probably a long shove backwards to the Topeka Sub. Does anyone have a recent picture of a train using the pictured bridge? If not, Id sure like to find out someday when a train is using this bridge. Its in a great spot for pictures during the afternoon hours. (Photo by Larry Byers)
