Here is a tiny tip in the spirit of living sustainably within whatever culture you live if it is in a modern and very sophisticated food distribution system, with foods coming from near and far: Modern markets are very, very, sophisticated in regards to properly preserving the foods they sell until it reaches you to eat. You pick out what is to your liking and along the lines as to your sensibilities as to what is best to eat in regards to freshness. We all know that someone selling food, from whatever source, will do so for as long as reasonably possible in order to get the sale. Not a necessarily a bad thing, as this is a part of capitalism and a degree of it exists within non capital societies too. Anyway, the point being: Food wastage after bought from whatever standards a consumer employs due to being improperly stored before consumption is a huge source of waste. A contribution to living non sustainable. If buying from a modern market, simply look at how the food is being presented. Namely, is it refridgerated or not refridgerated? Once purchased and brought home, that is how the fresh food should be kept as well. Otherwise, it is apt to go bad much sooner than you when you are ready to eat it before intensive preservation means are taken to preserve this food. Fresh food loss is a great source of loss across all societies.
