Here is an update on where we are at. While we started out being 30% down in donations, over the last week things have turned around and we are now 33% over this time last year, Over the last 2 days alone we collected 700 items. A big thank you to everyone who has donated! Some people have posted that not many were donating last night because they noticed the bins were empty, but that is probably because we had to empty them multiple times last night. Donations were flowing at a very brisk rate until the police prevented people from stopping, at which point they stopped completely. We did speak with the officers about anything they could do to help on future nights, but their only suggestion was to pay for traffic control. Someone posted an estimated $40/hr per officer (which is probably low), but doing the math, for the 37 hours a week, for the 4 weeks of December, thats almost $6,000. At that point the cost outweighs the donations, so we should just stop and donate the cash to community services. We have no idea how traffic will be tonight, the show runs from 5pm-10pm, but to be safe we will continue to run the shortened 3 song show.
