Here is my motocross bike, a Honda SL125! I had a 99cc barrel on it so I could race in 100 class. Couldn’t keep up with the Elsies in 125 class. It had a XL125 head, ported and polished by me, 24 mm Mikuni, Yoshimura pipe and cam. I modified the thingys in bottom of the forks per Motocross magazine, drilled the caps to install Schrader valves and had the best ride possible with what, maybe 6 inches. I extended the swing arm and had this position and moved up with Red Wing springs for the track. Then the kick stand was useless so I used a milk crate, of course! For race trim, I removed the headlight, speedo, tach and ignition switch and installed a number plate, kill switch, knobbies and Preston Petty fenders front and rear, of course. I added a second masterlink and a few extra links to install the largest primary sprocket available. I didn’t own a truck when I raced high school motocross at Corona Raceway in CA. I missed my ride one time, so I put my rear Preston Petty under my jacket and went to the track. When I got there, I removed the mirror and fender/tail light/license plate and installed the Preston Petty, went out and got a fifth, a third and a first. My friends were saying, “Gary rides his 4 stroke street bike out to the track and wins the race!” A night to remember!!
