Here is part 1 of an interview in the Reflector on my election. Both candidates were interviewed. The story continues below. Incumbent Republican Commissioner Glen Webb is finishing his first term on the board. He is being challenged by Democrat Kenneth Ross, who served one term on the board before being defeated by Webb in 2010. Webb: “If you look at our records and look at how we’ve dealt with things, the main difference is action.” The Board of Commissioners managed to increase education spending and the sheriff’s office budget despite a national recession because its members wanted to make Pitt County a better place, Webb said. “Voters should select me because I am focused and I am engaged in the process. I’ve been a part of some of the best job development we’ve had in Pitt County in recent memory,” Webb said. Webb said he is reaching beyond the county’s borders to work for its citizens. He is president-elect of the N.C. Association of County Commissioners and is chairman of a law enforcement subcommittee for the National Association of Counties. Ross: “I am accessible to the people. I am out here all the time, moving around, seeing people, talking to them, listening to their concerns. I don’t have a job, I am full-time retired so I have time to get out and meet the people.” Ross said people do not have to text him to communicate — they can approach him, share their issues, and he will see how the county can address them. The results may not be what an individual wants, but Ross said he will try to help.
