Here is this weeks Captains Insider from Captain Mark Hubbard! Hubbard’s Marina Johns Pass Fishing Report 1026/13 Inshore- The grouper have moved inshore! We have caught many short grouper inside of John’s Pass. The big keepers are few and far between but there have been reports of keepers caught inshore more than a few times. The snook are being caught at Sun-up or Sun-down just inside the pass on the grass flats between the barrier islands, or they have been caught on the jetties feeding on the live bait that has been plentiful with the clear water. The flounder are also around on the sandy bottom. The mackerel have also made their way inshore. We have caught multiple of the end of our dock inside of John’s Pass. These guys love whitebait or flashy fast-moving lures. The pompano will also be around for awhile longer. They love moving in and out of the pass and right down the beaches. Their favorite lure is the Doc’s jig and the directions for working the lure are right on the packaging. Near-shore- The pelagic fish are here in full force! The large “smoker” kings have followed the mackerel closer to shore. Blackfin tuna are also close to shore following the bait schools around. Our private charter boat caught three tunas within sight of the beach! The mackerel are right on the beaches chasing the plentiful whitebait. Also, grouper have moved inshore we have been getting multiple keeper grouper on our 5 hour trips and these only go 9-12 miles offshore and they fish depths of only 30-50ft. Our ten hour trips have been doing even better getting lots of grouper and even more Gag grouper thanks to the cooling water. Offshore- The bite has been HOT offshore recently! This past weekend we not only had our typical Friday overnight trip, we also had a Sunday 39 hour charter as well with Bass Pro shops. These trips brought back loads of large mangrove snappers, groupers and huge Amberjack. They also had yellowtail snapper on both trips! Plus, Sunday’s charter caught a 13 lb hogfish by Bo Janecka Deltona Fl… what a catch! We also had multiple kingfish, Tuna and a huge Bull Mahi Mahi caught as well by Joe Diebold Apollo Bch Fl! The pelagic fish are definitely around right now… Don’t forget your flat-lines and trolling gear!
