Heres a little history to add to How Lane. I wasnt able to comment on the thread but wanted to add this. I lived on How Lane just about the entire time I lived in Jersey. My family built our home (1450) soon after I was born in the early 50s. My grandfather, was head of construction at Johnson and Johnsons and oversaw the building as he was a carpenter from Germany. My father served in WWII and when he came back home, the mayor, who was very generous to vets, allowed my Dad to buy as much property as he could afford. My grandparents who lived on Nassau St. loaned him money and he bought several lots. My Dad always told me that the correct spelling was Howe Lane because it was named after General Howe from the Revolutionary War. He always said that Washington and Howe marched down Rt. 27 for the battle of the Delaware. I dont know if there is any truth to the story but it sounds plausible. I have so many fond memories of North Brunswick: Livingston Park School, Linwood and then going to New Brunswick High School. Yes, I am OLD.......Just turned 62 today and am proud that Ive made it to this age!!! When I was growing up, we were one of only a few families living on that street (others were the Sneadikers (Bob Sneadiker and the Clarks). There was an older couple, Mr and Mrs. Davis, who lived in the oldest stone house on the street. I felt somewhat isolated in my early years on How Lane as it was mostly a large field. There was a family called Hill that lived in the house that used to be a railroad station. They had 2 girls, April and Terri, who were my early playmates. When they moved to Arizona I was devastated. Finally the Amatos (Cathy, Anna and Peter) moved into the neighborhood and we became good friends. I was somewhat isolated when I lived there as my father worked and we didnt have second car for my mother to drive so it was difficult to visit friends over the bridge or have them come over. Sure wish that things were as simple these days as they were in those carefree days of childhood!!! I made many lifetime friends from North and New Brunswick, who through the magic of Facebook, Ive been reconnected. To those friends, I owe huge gratitude. They supported me when I had brain surgery last May. I dont think I could have handled things as well as I was able to without their kind words. A special thanks to Cathy Merritt Lawrence (my BFF from kindergarten), Sharon Renda, Lynell Kohler Boston, Rhonda Valentine Mitchell, Paula Schorr, Bob Simon and Charles Levinski who all gave me wonderful words of encouragement. Old friends are the very best!!!
