Heres whats going on this weekend... The 37th annual Toy Soldier Bazaar runs from 9 am until 4 pm on Saturday at the Cowlitz County Conference Center, with this year’s proceeds helping to support Addy Jo Clifton, a local little girl who is battling cancer. Donated entrance fees will be going directly to Addy Jo and her family. Call 751-5106 for more information. You can help out the Show and Chamber Choirs at Kelso High School by going to a Craft Fair Fundraiser that’s planned for Saturday in Gregg Hall at Cowlitz Villa in Kelso. The choirs are working to raise $30,000 to send 27 students for a special tour and performance at Disneyland. They’ll have locally-crafted gifts, jewelry, candles, baked goods and other items. Hours are 9 am to 6 pm; Gregg Hall is located at 900 Grade Street in Kelso. The YMCA of Southwest Washington kicks off its Kids Goodtymes Program on Saturday, providing activities, games and other fun for special needs children between the ages of 6 and 13. Financial assistance is available for families that qualify. Call the Y at 423-4770 for more information. There’s a free Water Safety Training class for families that starts on Saturday, November 1st at the YMCA in Longview. You can learn how to help yourself and others while in the water during the class. Participants will receive a 30 to 40-minute water safety swim lesson, followed by 10 to 15 minutes of free time in the Y’s Activity Pool. The classes run two Saturdays in a row, and will be offered at different times through December 6th and 13th. Call the Y at 423-4770 to get registration information. There’s a free “Adventures in Boating” education course being offered on Saturday at the Cowlitz County Search and Rescue Building, going from 8 am until 4 pm. Call the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office at 577-3092 for registration information. If you have some pictures that you would like to show in this year’s annual Amateur Photo Contest and Show at the McClelland Arts Center, entires are being accepted from 2 to 5 pm on Sunday, the 2nd and from 4 to 7 pm on Monday, the 3rd. The show itself starts next Friday, with an Artists Reception that evening. After that, the Photo Contest and Show will run through Sunday, the 9th. Contact Longview Parks and Rec for more information. The annual Mist Helping Circle Fall Festival is set for this Saturday, starting at 6 pm in the Mist Grade School Gym. They’ll have a live and silent auction, a bake sale, door prizes, a quilt raffle and an entertainment program. This is the primary fundraising event for the Helping Circle, and will help to support maintenance of the Mist Cemetery, along with a scholarship program. You can help to improve the habitat for the endangered Columbian White-Tailed Deer by heading down to the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge on Saturday. Volunteers are needed to help plant thousands of native trees and shrubs to help provide cover and fed for the deer, starting this weekend and going into March of next year.
