Hey guys, got another classic boxing match for you. This fight, billed as Thunder Vs. Lightning, was the fight of the year in 1990, as well as fight of the decade. WBC Champion and boxing legend Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. (who went 89-0 before losing) faced off against IBF Champion Meldrick Taylor (then 24-0) in a bout that remains highly contested to this day. Taylor utilized his rapid hand speed and brilliant combinations to build a large lead on the scorecards throughout the first 3 quarters of the fight. Chavez however, armed with destructive punching power and an iron skull, relentlessly stalked Taylor throughout the fight dealing out serious punishment with every punch landed. In the 12th and final round a desperate Chavez launched a monstrous assault, knocking down the battered Taylor with less than 20 seconds left in the fight. Referee Richard Steele, lost amidst the chaos and worried for Taylors health (broken orbital bones around both eye sockets), waved the fight off, giving Chavez a TKO victory with less than 5 seconds remaining.
